About
What is a Clinical Trial?A clinical trial (also clinical research) is a research study in human volunteers to answer specific health questions. Interventional trials determine whether experimental treatments or new ways of using known therapies are safe and effective under controlled environments. Observational trials address health issues in large groups of people or populations in natural settings. (source ct.gov)What are these graphs?
This project has gathered clinical trial data from clinicaltrials.gov and allows users to graph the number of clinical trials involving specified diseases, drugs, sponsors, etc. A search query is considered part of a clinical trial if it is mentioned in either the Condition, Intervention or Sponsor sections of a clinical trial overview page at ct.gov. The year listed is the year of the study's start date.Right now this project is a proof-of-concept. My main concern currently is that the data is not synced up perfectly. For example, Parkinson Disease and Parkinson's Disease are treated as two separate conditions in my database. Also, Colon cancer and Colorectal cancer are not considered the same. I will be working on correcting these mapping problems next. I also need to do a refresh of the data from ct.gov as I am missing a number of trials.
